Envision Duxbury Public Forum #1
On Wednesday, November 15, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) hosted the first public forum for the Duxbury Comprehensive Master Plan, entitled “Envision Duxbury.” Over 80 Duxbury residents came out to the community forum at the Duxbury Free Library to voice their priorities for Housing, Open Space & Recreation, and Historic & Cultural Resources over the next decade. After a presentation introducing attendees to the master planning process and summarizing the existing conditions research done to date, the group broke out into an open house with interactive activities for the three elements at the focus of Envision Duxbury’s first phase. Phase two of the plan will begin this summer and will focus on Economic Development, Transportation, Public Services & Facilities, Sustainability, and Land Use & Zoning.
This forum caps off months of community visioning for Envision Duxbury, which has included a robust web/social media presence, engagement at events in Duxbury over the summer, and a highly successful online survey. Over 1,200 Duxbury residents completed the online survey; about 10% of the Duxbury population aged 10 and up. The results from the 23 questions asked in survey were displayed at Wednesday’s forum for residents to see and react to.

It’s apparent to me that I’m not alone in feeling that making paths for biking and walking along roadways in town would add to the general enjoyment of our beautiful town. I’m seeing that there seems to be a great amount of interest in more sidewalks/paths connecting areas of town. It’s also gratifying to see that the quality of our school system is a source of pride for our town because in addition to living in town, I also teach in town and I know how passionate our faculty are.
